Straw Folk
Harris, Original Memory Strawfolk Raggedy Scarecrow
£95.00
Always available from the studio.
Harris is a rather distinguished old soul, handmade from reclaimed fabrics and beautiful pieces of genuine Harris Tweed.
He has the look of someone who knows exactly when the rain is coming, keeps string in every pocket and has been quietly listening to the birds’ allotment gossip for longer than anyone can remember.
A little weathered, wonderfully mismatched and perfectly wonky, he was created to feel as though he already has a lifetime of stories tucked beneath his hat.
This listing is for the exact, one-of-a-kind scarecrow shown in the photographs. He is already made and ready to begin his next adventure.
His clothes however may vary from the photographs shown.
Description
This character has also been designed in the spirit of a traditional memory bear, but in true Raggedy fashion, he is life-sized, a little muddier and much happier standing among the vegetables.
Bespoke Memory Scarecrows can be commissioned using your own meaningful fabrics, including:
• A loved one’s old shirts
• A grandparent’s gardening clothes
• Favourite dresses, aprons or scarves
• Harris Tweed or treasured fabric remnants
• Clothing belonging to someone dearly missed
• Outgrown children’s clothes filled with family memories
Rather than keeping these precious fabrics folded away in a cupboard, they can become part of a completely unique character, someone to stand in a favourite garden, watch over an allotment or simply bring a familiar piece of somebody special back into the sunshine.
Your clothing would be carefully incorporated into the scarecrow’s head, patches, features or outfit wherever suitable.
Every commission would be discussed with you first and treated with the utmost care.
Please contact me before ordering if you would like a bespoke Memory Scarecrow made from your own materials.
✂️ HANDMADE FROM FORGOTTEN THINGS
Every Raggedy scarecrow is individually handmade in my little workshop using reclaimed fabrics, recycled materials, vintage finds, charity-shop clothing and forgotten textiles that deserve another adventure.
They aren’t designed to look perfectly uniform or factory-made.
You may spot visible stitches, frayed edges, mismatched patches and quirky little imperfections.
That is precisely how they are supposed to be.
No two Raggedy scarecrows will ever be exactly alike.
📦 YOUR SCARECROW WILL ARRIVE WITH
• The handmade scarecrow character shown
• A complete outfit and hat (which may vary from the modelled photo)
• Twine for attaching him to a suitable frame
• An illustrated Official Raggedy Scarecrow certificate
• A little emergency repair kit
• Illustrated assembly instructions
🪵 YOU WILL NEED
• Straw, hay or another suitable body filling
• Approximately 20 saved carrier bags to fill the head
• Two wooden battens, sturdy stakes or suitable garden canes
• Nails or screws to make a simple cross-shaped frame
The wooden frame and straw or hay are not included.
Assembly takes approximately 30 minutes.
Your scarecrow will arrive ready for you to stuff, dress and bring fully to life at home.
Please remember that this is a handmade outdoor character created from reclaimed textiles.
Exposure to sunshine, wind and rain will naturally weather and fade the materials over time, adding even more character to their story.
