Straw Folk

Mabel Muddleworth, Original Strawfolk Raggedy Scarecrow

£95.00

This Folk has found a home.

Mabel Muddlewort has never frightened a bird in her life.

She tried once, many summers ago, but apologised immediately and offered it some sunflower seeds.

Since then, the birds have treated her less like a scarecrow and more like the lady in charge of allotment refreshments.

Mabel spends her days watching over the flower beds, listening to secrets carried through the hedgerows and collecting dried seed heads in the folds of her dress.

She is particularly fond of crooked sunflowers, overgrown paths and vegetables that have grown into peculiar shapes.

Her straw hair is rarely tidy, her hat has seen better days and she usually has at least one twig caught somewhere about her person—but Mabel considers this the sign of a day well spent.

Your new friend will arrive flat-packed and ready for you to bring to life at home.

Simply make a basic wooden cross frame, add your stuffing, thread straw through the ready-made hair loops and dress your scarecrow.

Description

🌾 WHAT’S INCLUDED

• Mabel’s handmade fabric scarecrow head
• Integrated elastic loops for adding straw hair
• A full set of carefully chosen scarecrow clothing
• Handmade or carefully sourced hat
• Twine for attaching Mabel to her frame
• An illustrated Official Raggedy Scarecrow certificate
• A little emergency repair kit
• Illustrated step-by-step assembly guide

Please note that, because reclaimed clothing is used, Mabel’s outfit may vary slightly from the photoshoot pictures.

It will always be carefully selected to complement her rustic, cottage-garden character.

🪵 YOU WILL NEED

• Straw or hay
• Two wooden battens, stakes or suitable garden canes
• Nails or screws to create the cross-shaped frame
• Saved carrier bags or reusable plastic bags to help stuff the head

Each head takes around 20 carrier bags to fill, so start saving them from the time you order! It’s a lovely way to reuse those old bags hiding in cupboards and give them another purpose rather than buying new stuffing.

♻️

Please note: the wooden frame and straw or hay are NOT included.

✂️ HANDMADE FROM FORGOTTEN THINGS

Every scarecrow is made by hand in my little workshop using reclaimed fabrics, recycled materials, vintage finds, charity-shop clothing and forgotten textiles that deserve another adventure.

And handmade really does mean handmade.

These scarecrows aren’t designed to look perfectly uniform or factory-made, they’re perfectly wonky and proud of it!

You may spot visible stitches, mismatched fabrics, patches, different textures and quirky little imperfections.

That’s all part of their charm.

No two will ever be quite the same, and I wouldn’t want them to be.

🌾

Rather than arriving as a mass-produced finished garden ornament, Mabel will arrive ready for you to build, stuff and give the finishing touches to her personality.
