Straw Folk
Professor Barnaby Bramble, Original Strawfolk Raggedy Scarecrow
£95.00
Only one exists.
Professor Barnaby Bramble is the self-appointed authority on all allotment matters.
He knows precisely when the beans ought to be planted, which corner receives the best afternoon sunshine and where the robin has hidden its latest collection of stolen string.
Whether anybody has actually asked for his advice is entirely beside the point.
Barnaby once owned several pairs of spectacles, but repeatedly misplaced them among seed packets, plant pots and the compost heap.
His latest pair has therefore been carefully hand stitched directly onto his face.
He considers this an excellent and extremely practical solution.
From behind those wonderfully round glasses, Barnaby spends his days inspecting seedlings, counting courgettes and keeping detailed mental records of everything happening across the vegetable patch.
He is particularly good at spotting slugs, although he becomes easily distracted by unusually shaped clouds.
With his rosy cheeks, stitched smile, wild straw hair and handmade spectacles, Barnaby has the friendly face of someone who always has a useful gardening tip, even when it is completely unnecessary.
🌾 READY TO SEND
Professor Barnaby is a ready-to-send, full-size Scarecrow in a Box kit.
He will arrive flat-packed and ready for you to stuff, assemble and bring to life at home.
When assembled on the recommended frame, Barnaby will stand approximately 6ft tall.
His finished height may vary slightly depending on the wooden frame you create.
His clothing may vary slightly from the photoshoot pictures because reclaimed garments are used, but it will always be carefully selected to complement his traditional, slightly scholarly character.
👓 HIS HAND-STITCHED GLASSES
Barnaby’s round spectacles are individually stitched by hand directly onto his fabric face.
They aren’t printed or attached plastic glasses, they form part of his permanent expression and make him completely unmistakable.

✂️ HANDMADE FROM FORGOTTEN THINGS
Every Raggedy scarecrow is made by hand in my little workshop using reclaimed fabrics, recycled materials, vintage finds, charity-shop clothing and forgotten textiles that deserve another adventure.
And handmade really does mean handmade.
These scarecrows aren’t designed to look perfectly uniform or factory-made, they’re perfectly wonky and proud of it!
You may spot visible stitches, mismatched fabrics, patches, different textures and quirky little imperfections.
That is all part of their charm.
No two Raggedy scarecrows will ever be exactly the same.
Rather than arriving as a mass-produced garden ornament, Barnaby arrives ready for you to build, stuff and finish bringing to life.
🌦️ LIVING OUTDOORS
Barnaby is designed for gardens, allotments, vegetable patches, community gardens and outdoor displays.
As with any character made from reclaimed textiles, sunshine and rain will naturally weather and fade his clothing over time.
This simply adds to his traditional Raggedy character, although sheltering him during severe weather and storing him somewhere dry over winter will help him enjoy many more adventures.
